Ramar padam has the foot print of Lord Rama and is a sacred place for Hindus. It is also spelled as Ramar patham. The temple houses the footprints of Lord Rama. This is the location where Hanuman allegedly met Lord Rama and conveyed his sighting of Sita at Ashokavanam in Sri Lanka. Initially this point was chosen to begin journey to Sri Lanka, but later another location was decided as this route was ending at a different location in Sri Lanka. Ram Sethu was constructed at Dhanushkodi using which Sri Ram went to Sri Lanka
Sri Ramar Padam temple, residing on a hillock in Pamban Island is incidentally the highest point on the island too. From the top of this hillock, the entire island of Rameshwaram is visible.
