Temple History

Pedakakani Sri Bramarambha Malleswara Swamy temple is a famous 1000 years old Lord Shiva temple located in Pedakakani village, Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh State. The temple lies just outside of Guntur city at a distance of just 10 km from Guntur on Guntur - Vijayawada highway road. The temple is just 26 km away from Vijayawada city.

It is said that the Goddess Bhramaramba Devi is one of the Astadasa Sakthi and the presiding Deity. Sri Malleswara Swamy is one of the Jyothirlingam of Srisaila Kshetram. Hence the worship to this deity is equal to the worship of Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy of Srisaila Kshetram.

Sri Bharadwaja Maharshi, one of the familiar in Maharshi ganam once upon a time visited all Theerthams and by that time that happened to visit this temple and worshipped the deity and who also desired to perform Yagna Krathuvu. By inviting all Maharshies and celebrated Yagnam and at the time of distribution of Havisses, one crow started to have these havisses. Bharadwaja Maharshi very much disappointed for that and tried to stop having of Havisses intended to Yagna Purushas by that crow. There upon the crow said that she was "Kakasura" and by doing Thappassu and by satisfying brahma she got "varmu" that she can have the Havirbhagalu intended to the Devathas. She further advised to provide Abhushekam to her with Panchamrutham etc. So that the said crow got white colour and worshipped the Diety with Jasmins and from that occasion the name of the Swamy varu has become “Sri Malleswara Swamy Varu" and the Kshetram is named as "kakakani. It is said that the said this crow used to worshipped the Deity by that time of returning from Manasa Sarovaram. Sri Bharadwaja Maharshi has arranged a well on the eastern side of the temple and Maharshi Pungavas have brought various Theerthams and kept in this well and that the well water has become "Holy" and having antibiotic qualities.

In the year 1440 AD Sri Krishna Devaraya of Vijaya Nagara Emporer visited this temple and at the advise of the Ministers “Renturi Chittarusu" renovated the temple by giving financial co-operation.

BELIEF:
The temple is having a Well on the eastern side and it is popularly known as Yagnala Bavi. The belief is that Bharadhwaja brought water from all the Holy Rivers and poured them into this well. Even to day people believe that a glass of water from this well will cure all diseases and keep people hale and healthy. The people also believe that “KORINA KORKELU THEERCHE DEVUDU – KAKANI DEVUDU”. It was also learnt that the Emperor Sri Krishna Devaraya got a Son by praying the GOD Sri Malleswara. Thus all of the people got the belief that the GOD will present SANTHANAM. So many devotees and pilgrims are performing Marriages in this temple with great Devotional belief.

Pedakakani temple is very famous for Rahu Ketu pooja. The puja is performed everyday during rahukalam period. Rahu Ketu puja Timings.

Sunday evening at 4:30 P.M.
Tuesday from 3:00 P.M.

"Mahasivaratri" is the main Festival being celebrated every year. Thousands of Pilgrims are visiting the institution on that auspicious day. Apart from the above Festival Ganapathi Navaratri Utsavams, Dasara Navaratri Utsavams and Arudrotsavams are being celebrated every year in the temple.

Good accommodation facilities are available near the temple for the visiting pilgrims. Temple board is maintaining Siva Sadanam, Malleswara sadanam, Kanaka Durga sadanam and guest house near the temple premises at a nominal price. As Pedakakani temple is very close to Guntur and Vijayawada cities, pilgrims can get good five star lodging and accommodation facilities in these cities. The famous Vijayawada Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam is 28 km from here.

Pedakakani is a Mandal Head Quarters situated 6 K.Ms. from Guntur Town on National Highway from Guntur to Vijayawada. Guntur city has good connectivity by road and rail with all the major cities of South India. Number of Buses flying from Guntur to Vijayawada through & fro every five minutes and the roadway distance from Guntur to Pedakakani is 8 Kms. and Vijayawada to Pedakakani 25 Kms. APSRTC buses and private transport is available from Guntur. Temple authorities constructed an “Arch” at National Highway for guidance of Pilgrims.

Guntur Railway Junction is 9.1 km which is connected to all the major cities of India. Pedakakani Railway Station is 1.7 km.

Vijayawada Airport is the nearest airport which is 45.1 km from here.
