Temple History

Kallakuru Venkateswara Swamy temple is 450 years back ancient temple located in Kallakuru village, Mogalthur mandal, West Godavari district.

A Brahmin Sridhara used to live at Tirumala Venkatachalam Hills and while spending his life Serving Lord Venkateswara by Building an Ashram, He gets attracted to a GandharvaKanya who used to Play Veena at Tirumala Venkateswara Swamy Presence.

He asked her to Marry Him, But she refuses his proposal. Angry with the GardarvaKanya Reply Sridhara Cursed her. GandharvaKanya too cursed Sridhara in Return. Not knowing what to do, both of Them Prayed Lord Venkateswara Swamy to Show a way to get rid of their Curses. Lord Venkateswara swamy replied stating that GandarvaKanya will be born as Padmavathi river near Godavari at Coastal area and Sridhara will be born at Karnataka as a Brahmin and after facing severe struggles in his life he will come to Padmavathi river and after placing my (Lord Venkateswara) Idol at the river and praying both the Curses will be lifted off said Lord Venkateswara. Later, Sridhar installed the gold statue of Lord. Once the staue was stolen and Sridhar had dreampt of Lord telling him that he emerged as a rock staue in a peepal tree located at west of River Padmavathi. Sridhar had installed that statue at the eastern side of the river. Likewise, Sridhar and Padmavathi got releived from the curse.

During those Days the Idol of Lord Venkateswara Swamy used to be Submerged into soil till the Stomach, From them on this Village had been Called Kallakuru instead of Sri Rangaraja Puram. Mogalturu a Village near Bhimavaram is called Kethalipuram during the rule of Sri Kalidindi Rangaraju Prabhu. One day Lord Venkateswara appeared in his dream and asked him to Visit Tirumala. Following the Lords Words Rangaraju started his journey to Tirumala, On the way while he is resting at a place near Elurupadu, Tirumalacharya the main Purohit of Kallakuru Temple asked him to provide Amenities (Poshana) for the Temple and take the blessings of Venkateswara. But Rangaraju Refused it in a polite way. The next day when Rangaraju woke up and finds his both eyes were Blind. After visiting Tirumala Rangaraju he got his one eye back and the second eye after visiting Kallakuru Venkateswara Swamy Temple. Later Sri Rangaraju began serving Kallakuru Venkateswara Swamy. He even Donated 83 Acres of land which is still under the Devastanam.

Speciality of the Lord Venkateshwara swamy murthy with a tuft(sikha) at his back head and Goddess Maha Lakshmi in his heart.

Lakshmi in his Heart:
The staue of Kallakuru Venkateshwara Swamy has a speciality having tuft(sikha)t at his back head and Goddess Maha Lakshmi in his heart. At the right and left sides Goddess Padmavathi and Goddess Aandal are present. People beleive in fulfilling their wishes and so they even donate land for this Lord here. As the devotees increasing every year, Kothapalli Ramalinga Raju built a guest house with 7.5 lakhs for the visitors to this temple. The villagers he had provided 17.50 cents of land for Kalyanotsavams and other special poojas. Nadampalli Venkatramaraju donated 7 lakhs bu buliding a office for the temple.

Every Month Alvarula Utsavams, Ugadi, Sri Krishnastami, Sri Devinavaratrulu (Dusherra), Dhanurmasam , Sri Swamy Vari Kalyanotsavams and several other Sevas are done in a very grand way.

On Vaisakha Suddha Ekadasi and Asweeyuja Suddha Chaturdashi, a grand celebration of Kalyanotsavams are perfomed every year. At this celebrations, Pongal donated as prasad will be provided with children for childless. For the well and good of the family, it is beleived that to perfom shanti kalayanam. Many visitors come here from places like Bangalore, Agra, Bellary, Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi.

Internationally, Pulihora is a very special prasad over here. Specially, people take the tamarind extract from here t mix as Pulihora. People who got jobs usually offer their first salary to Lord here.

Kallakuru temple is located 14 kilometres from Bheemavaram at the centre point of Kalla Mandalam. Bheemavaram city is well connected with all the major cities of South India by road and railways.

Bhimavaram Bus stand is 15.6 km and Bhimavaram Town railway station is 16.2 km from the temple. Akividu railway station is 10.6 km. Buses and private transport is available from the bus stand and railway stations.
