Temple History

Dahanu Mahalaxmi Temple is one of the famous pilgrimages from Maharashtra. Dahanu Mahlaxmi have two temples. One is situated beside on National Highway No.8 at Charoti Naka, and other one is situated on the mountain called Mahalaxmi Hill nearby about 3 to 4 kilometers. Both temples are dedicated to Goddess Mahalakshmi.

Legendary is that the goddess Mata Mahalaxmi use to halt here during her visit to Gujarat from Kolhapur.

This temple is 28 kms from Dahanu, 97 kms from Thane and 120 kms from Mumbai cities.

The Goddess Mahalaxmi is the family deity of tribes, so during the festive period, the tribals arrange taarpa dance. The administrative role is played by the trustee board (Mahalaxmi Mandir Charoti Naka - Satvi Family, Mahalaxmi Mandir at Mahalaxmi Hill – Bolade Family).

During the Hanuman Jayanti here is the biggest function perform every year, known as Mahalxmi Chi Yaatra. This is clebrated for 15 days and is the only the biggest event in the Dahanu region. Devotees from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Daman & Diu, Dadara Nagar Haveli are participates on this celebration.

Temple trust board is maintaining good facilities at the temple for the devotees. Some small hotels are there near the temple. Best options are available at Dahanu city and Mumbai.

Dahanu Beach and Dahanu Fort are the other beautiful places to visit near from the temple.

Dahanu is the nearest city to this temple which has the good connectivity by train and bus route with the major cities. Kasa is the nearest town which is just 4 kms to this temple. Mumbai central station is 124 kms.

Dahanu Bus Station is 27.5 kms and Dahanu Railway Station Rd is 26.5 kms. Buses, autos and private transport is available from the Dahanu bus stand and railway stations.

Mumbai Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport is 107 kms only.
