Lord Krishna

Temple History

Sri Venugopala Swamy Temple is situated in Nemali village, Gamapalagudem Mandal of Krishna district. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shri Krishna and is self incarnated(swayambhu).

According to history locals said that in the year 1953, when one Sri Kadari Venkateshwarulu was ploughing his farm land in Nemali village he suddenly found the idol of Venugopala Swami in his field. The temple presiding deity was installed on magha suddha saptami (as per Telugu calendar) on February 6, 1957. There is an inscription in the temple premises that gives the evidence of the above statement. The first pooja was performed by the village Priest Vishwanadham. It is also said that in Dwaparayug before leaving his body Lord Krishna left the peacock feather of his crown at this place.

Around the temple corridor surrounding the temple, one can see depictions of various Gods, beautiful carvings of Lord Sri Krishna and epic stories of the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu.

In this large temple complex you can find other deities like Alwar saints and Godha Devi (Godha Devi is the incarnation of Bhoomi Devi, Goddess of Earth) in Alwar style. There is also a "Yaga Sala" (room for performing Yagnam) and a beautiful mirror room where Lord Krishna is placed in a cradle. "Pavalimpu Seva" or "lullaby" is performed to Lord Shri Krishna in this mirror house.

The lord in this temple is believed to bestow childless couple with children. Many people have had good experience in this regard and hence thousands of couples wanting for kids come and visit this temple.

Brahmotsavam of Sri Venugopala Swamyvari Devasthanam is celebrated every year six days in Phalguna mas. During this occasion ‘Kalyanotsavam’ of presiding deity would be performed. The rituals begin with ‘suprabhata seva’. The temple priests would take out a procession with the processional deities in the village.
