Temple History

Sri Ganesh Temple adjacent to Secunderabad Railway Station is one of the oldest and prominent temples of Lord Ganapati in Telangana and South India. Sri Siddhi Vinayaka temple is situated besides the Secunderabad rathifile bus station.

This temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. It is the only Ganesh temple in India where Lord Ganapathi is with his right hand on one leg and the other hand over the goad(Ankusham) used to train elephants. Devotees who come to this temple can get blessing of Lord Shiva family. The main idol is Lord Ganesh. There are idols of lord Shiva, Parvati Devi, Sri Valli Devasena sametha Lord Subramanya swamy. Apart from Shiva family, you also have lord Hanuman idol who is considered lord Shiva form facing south (opposite to Uma devi). Along with major gods and goddesses, you find nava graha’s along with naga prathista (installed) in the temple.

It is said that, the Ganesh idol was found in 1824 by the Madras Regiment Sepoys, while they were digging a well of water there. It is a very rare visual of Lord Ganesha. In fact it is the only one of its kind in the world and this is the only other temple after Kanipakam Ganapati Devasthanam where Lord Ganesha found his abode in a well. With great devotion, the Sepoys consecrated the idol and installed it in an architecturally marvelous temple, built according to Aagama Sastra. Now this temple is under Telangana Government Endowment department.

The Idols of Sri Navagraha, Valli Deva Sena Sametha Sri Subrahmanya Swamy and Sri Anjaneya Swamy were consecrated and installed in the vicinity of Sri Ganapathi Devalayam in the year 1932.

Panchamruthabhishekam is performed daily morning for Sri Ganesh, Lord Shiva, Goddess Uma Maheshwari Devi, Sri Valli Deva Sena Sameta Sri Subramanya Swamy, Sri Anjaneya Swamy, Navagrahas at 5.45 a.m. Rituals like Homams, Abhishekams, Satyanarayana swamy vratham, Kumkumarchana, Special poojas are performed by the devotees daily. Vinayakachavithi festival is grandly celebrated here which attracts the huge crowd of devotees all the nine days. Devi Sharan Navrathri, Dasara, Subramanaya Swamy Sasthi, Karthika Masam, Mahasivaratri and all other hindu festivals are also celebrated here.

As Secunderabad is the major railway station of Telangana, best hotels, restaurants, lodges and Star hotels are available near the temple.

Hyderabad city is well connected with all the major cities of India by road and railways. Secunderabad city bus station(Rathifile) is juss beside this temple. TSRTC city buses runs buses from all the parts of Hyderabad.

Jubilee Bus stand, Secunderabad is 3 kms and Secunderabad railway junction is in just 200 mtrs distance from the temple.

Hyderabad International Airport is 34 kms from here. Cabs and Autos are available to reach this temple from anywhere of Hyderabad.
