Temple History

Chintaman Ganesh is an ancient holy and is the biggest temple and of Lord Ganesha in Ujjain. It means relieving tensions. As it is the temple of Ganesha, people take the blessings of Ganesh for starting every new venture. This temple is built across the Kshipra river on the Fatehabad railway line.

The Ganesh idol enshrined here is supposed to be swayambhu - born of itself. The temple itself is believed to be of considerable antiquity. Riddhi and Siddhi, the consorts of Ganesha, are seated on either side of Ganesha. In the popular mind this place is known as Chintaharan Ganesha.

The temple also embraces the idol of Lord Vishnu in its vicinity. Here, Lord Ganesha and Lord Vishnu are worshipped together with great devotion.

The very appearance of the temple suggests that it belongs to prehistoric times. Still, the temple has not lost its charm; in fact, it has become unique with its ancient origin. Chintaman Ganesh Temple boasts of its artistically carved pillars that are placed in the assembly hall. The age-old sanctity of the temple is preserved till date. The belief of the devotees for this shrine makes it all the more sanctified. People visit this temple, in large numbers, to get the graceful blessings of Lord Ganesha.

From Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport, Indore the temple is around 61.1 Km and 4.0 Km from Ujjain Junction. From Shaheed Raja Bhau Mahakal Bus Stand,Ujjain it is 4.4 Km. Sharing autos, mini buses and taxis are available from Station and Bus stand. Ujjain darshan bus is also a good option to visit temples in Ujjain
